PRODUCTION WEEK
My internship at News Channel 3 has continued in being successful by me learning more about production. Before this week I had some idea and experience with production from my previous internship and TVNEWS and PRODUCTION class at O.D.U. After this week, I now have a better understanding of how a news broadcast is brought to you through the TV. It takes a lot of people and team work to have things run smoothly. Anything can happen that can change the entire show from one thing to the next, as I experienced this past week.
Production is conducted upstairs in the control room and on the floor in the studio. The control room is the brain of any news station. All cameras, audio, graphics, and microphones are operated from the control room. In production, everyone has to know how to work with cambotics, the audio board, directing, coding, floor directing, and how to work the teleprompter. Going over the rundowns before the show is very important for everyone to do first, especially the director. Everyone follows the director’s lead, but they all have their own responsibilities to uphold in order to make sure that the show run smoothly. A lot of the time everyone is focused on making sure to meet their cues that they do not have room to disgust the news that is being given.
The tornado watch / warnings and rain storm this past Wednesday really gave me a new feel for the production room. It is a complete rush. At first, I was very nervous, but as I am reflecting over it, I completely loved it. Everyone was very nice and acted as a team. I really had to take in a lot in such a short amount of time, but I was told that I am more than welcomed to come back to production any time during my internship. I really look forward to putting more of what I learned into practice over the course of my internship.
