Production round2.

I had another go round in Production this week. Everyone has to be able to work cambotics, code, floor direct, man the teleprompter, and manage the audio board. This week I was more comfortable to execute the things I have learned. Everyone knows what they will be in charge of before they come in that afternoon. They also have to be prepared to switch up in positions throughout the night if need be.

Before the 4 o’clock, directors have to code where graphics, packages,VOs, SOTs, Live shots, and where the anchors will be looking. There is a file in OPUS that allows for different shots and cameras to be coded into the rundown. You would click the needed item, drag the icon into the open item in the run down, click the x and the command will save in the run down in an orange color. Johnetta and Leonard gave me tips and allowed me to code in the 4 o’clock rundown.

Floor directing is fairly simple. Making sure you are loud is key for the anchors to know when to prepare for the next cue. Making sure that the rundown is updated is important as well, so that you as a floor director are at the right position. Cambotics and teleprompter can be run by one person or two. Same as you would check the rundown in floor directing is the same for cambotics. The only thing you would have to do is reposition the camera to fit the anchors. When working the teleprompter, you have to listen to the anchor and actually pay attention to the show. Having the white line in place for the anchors to read is important too.

At the end of the 5 o’clock show, I faced my fears of managing the audio board. The screens and the board have to match up, anchors mics have to match up with the wheatstone audio board, A,B,and C are also in place for VOs, SOTs, and Packages sounds to play. Being a step ahead is the only way to keep the audio smooth. Listening to the director for ques is also important. This week I had a much more interactive experience in Production and have grown to appreciate the department.
